My Neighbour K; The Peculiar Garden (2022)

⟪My Neighbor K: The Peculiar Garden⟫ is a collaborative exhibition between Qoo-Teq, a digital media artist duo, and PCS, a ceramics artist, exploring the landscape of today's world where digital and analog intertwine organically.

To better understand the society that operates based on digital information technology, Qoo-Teq's Unknown Kim and Handi Kim started their work by seeking out the smallest unit elements that make up reality in both digital virtual reality and physical reality. The bit is the smallest unit of information and the most essential element that constitutes the digital virtual world, expressed as either 0 or 1. Meanwhile, earth is a material that makes up the ground and has often been used as a metaphor for birth and creation in ancient stories.

In collaboration with PCS (Yoo Seung-hoon), Unknown Kim and Handi Kim have created ceramic objects and made models of the earth to reproduce the contemporary landscape through a mixture of bits and earth. This landscape is depicted as a 'peculiar garden' where various lives coexist in one place. Data parasitizes and floats on the ground like characters, while the ground is composed relying on data. This connection between the two fundamental elements of different realities, bits and earth, allows ⟪My Neighbor K: The Peculiar Garden⟫ to propose one perspective for viewing and understanding today's information technology society.
